Richmondshire is one of the most beautiful areas within the Yorkshire Dales, covering over 500 square miles. It’s one of the most sparsely populated areas in the country so there’s plenty of space for you! Much of Richmondshire is within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Wensleydale, Coverdale, Bishopdale, Swaledale, Arkengarthdale – the names immediately conjure up stunning views and restful settings.
Richmond takes pride of place, with its Norman Castle, cobbled market place, famous Georgian Theatre Royal and elegant Georgian buildings.
Nearby are the bustling market towns of Leyburn and Hawes, with their independent shops and surprisingly wide range of places where you can enjoy eating local produce and sampling local beers.
Even if you’ve never visited before, you’ve probably seen some of Richmondshire before – as a film and television location, possibly as the breathtakingly beautiful setting for James Herriot’s "All Creatures Great and Small".
